Raw material calcination is an important process in carbon production technology, and the calcination operation is the high-temperature preheating treatment of carbon raw materials under isolated air conditions. The purpose of calcining coke is to remove volatile substances and moisture from the raw materials.
During the calcination process, a series of deep changes occur in the structure and elemental composition of various carbonaceous raw materials, thereby improving their physical and chemical properties. The quality of petroleum coke calcination has a significant impact on the quality of carbon materials and the technical indicators of each process. Therefore, ensuring the quality of raw material calcination is an important prerequisite for ensuring the quality of the final product.
The purpose of calcination:
1) Exclude volatile matter and moisture from raw materials. After calcination, the volatile content is less than 0.5% and the moisture content is less than 0.3%. The volatile matter and moisture content of the calcined coke represent the degree of calcination, and if they do not meet the requirements, secondary shrinkage will occur and cracks will form during calcination.
2) Improve the density and mechanical strength of raw materials. The true density is above 2.00g/cm3. The true density of the calcined coke affects the final product's true density, with poor mechanical strength and low stacking density. The main manifestation of the impact on forming is difficulty in forming, and the height of the blocks cannot meet the requirements within the required time, which affects the operation of the aluminum electrolysis cell, mainly manifested as slag dropping.
3) Improve the conductivity of raw materials. The specific resistance of the calcined coke affects the electrical resistivity of the final product.
4) Improve the chemical stability of raw materials. Improved antioxidant performance.
